California ProKart Challenge Set to Fire Up 15th Anniversary Season
TKART Staff
27 March 2019

The 15th season of the California ProKart Challenge will be celebrated throughout 2019, with the program set to begin this weekend. The flagship regional program for Superkarts! USA opens the racing calendar at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California on March 30-31. The 2019 season will be one for the record books, with a revised weekend format, a condensed six-round championship with a five-event schedule, and the largest prize purse ever offered up by the program.

Dating back to its origins during the 2005 season, the California ProKart Challenge was traditionally a two-day event held on Friday and Saturday of the weekend. New for the 2019 season is the shift to a Saturday-Sunday approach with an adjustment in the daily schedule format as well. Official practice begins on Saturday morning, with all categories being provided five rounds of practice ahead of Qualifying, which will be conducted at the end of the day. Sunday’s schedule will include a warm-up, with the Prefinal and Final to conclude each round early enough to allow competitors the opportunity to travel home before the sun sets. This new approach was formulated using the input and feedback from SKUSA’s racers and families.

Six rounds of racing are featured in this year’s schedule and the best five results will decide the California ProKart Challenge champions for 2019. The six rounds will be conducted in just five events on the 2019 calendar. As it has done for many years, Buttonwillow opens the year with Round 1 this weekend. The second event of the season is a special three-day, two-round event scheduled for June 7-9 at CalSpeed Karting in Fontana, California. Round 4 takes competitors to the Monterey Bay Karters facility in Marina, California on July 13-14. The final two rounds are set for the month of September. The Santa Maria Karting Association welcomes the ProKart Challenge on September 7-8, and the finale will once again wrap up the season at the Lancaster Grand Prix on September 28-29.

The class structure for the 2019 California ProKart Challenge has expanded for the season. All of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour categories will be a part of the California PKC. The lineup now includes X30 Senior, X30 Junior, X30 Master, X30 Super Master, Mini Swift, Micro Swift, Pro Shifter 1, Pro Shifter 2, G1 Gladiator, S4 Master Stock Moto, S4 Super Master Stock Moto, KA100 Senior, and KA100 Junior. A KA100 Master division has been added to the series for 2019, and a KA100 Super Master class is currently on the table provided enough drivers enter the category. S3 Novice Stock Moto and S5 Junior Stock Moto also remain on the class roster for the 2019 season.

The California ProKart Challenge would like to thank the following companies for their support as class sponsors for the 2019 season: Croc Promotion USA / Mad Old Nut Racing, Musgrave Racing Company, Alpinestars, Honda Racing/HPD, Bell Helmets, Evinco Tires, Ace High Designs, IAME USA West, Nash Motorsportz, Rolison Performance Group, Empire Karts, AiM Sports, Allen Berg Racing Schools, and Doran Motorsports Group.

An unprecedented prize package for 2019 has reached $120,000, with the guiding principle of giving back to customers, thanks to long-time series supporter MG Tires. All categories with five or more drivers in their class will award the top three finishing drivers entry credit toward their next California ProKart Challenge event. California PKC series champions will earn a SKUSA SuperNationals 23 entry credit, with the vice-champion earning two credits toward the 2020 California PKC program. The driver finished third in the standings will win one entry credit at CPKC for next season, and all championship awards include Evinco race tires. The series continues with the exciting weekend raffles during the podium presentations, including 10 sets of Evinco tires, four California ProKart Challenge entry credits, and a free SKUSA Pro Tour entry credit - both of these including Evinco race tires.

Pre-Registration remains open for the first round of the California ProKart Challenge at Buttonwillow. The deadline for online registration for the event is Tuesday, March 26 at 11:59pm PST – with the discounted price of $325 for entry and stamped race tires. A SKUSA membership is mandatory to register and compete. Move-in for Round 1 of the California PKC begins on Friday morning at 9:00 am, and the registration desk will open at 3:00 pm. Complete race and venue information, along with a tentative weekend schedule, can be found at the California PKC Event Page.
