CIK-FIA EURO KZ2 - ROUND 2: SATURDAY REVIEW
TKART Staff
11 July 2014

HOT NEWS - TKART - WACKERSDORF (GERMANY) – The KZ2 battle for the European title looks more like a game of poker, than a kart competition. Remember how in round one Andrea Dalè (Crg/Maxter) took four wins in Saturday’s heats? Well, in this second round a single driver again does the take-4 and this time it is Jan Midrla (Birel/TM).

The Czech driver wins 4 out of 5 of his heats and literally conquers the class lead – what a nice way to respond to the unlucky final in Genk, where he didn’t even rank in the point “zone”. While some are “born again”, others fall down. We are referring to provisional championship leader Andrea Dalè: he looks like a distant relative of the driver we saw in Belgium, but at least he manages to drive the best lap in his last two heats. Perhaps he just chose to carburate in the second phase of the weekend, this time around? We’ll find out on Finals Sunday, where he is set to start from 16th on grid. The Italian is still the man to beat, but only because his direct rival fared even worse today. We are talking about Danish driver Andreas Sebastian Hansen (Tony Kart/Vortex), who is currently standing 58th out of 64 competitors.
.

On the other hand, today we saw Simone Brenna (TB Kart/Modena Engines) again in great shape and steady: twice second and three timkes the winner, he is now second in the standings. Fin Koojman (CRG/TM) secured the third spot in the chart and some precious points in the title hunt. Mention also goes to two hard-chargers: Ryan Van Der Burgt (DR/TM) was 14th in Friday’s qualifyings and is now standing 4th best overall and Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG/Maxter) flew from 28th to 11th. Speed and misfortune, instead, are the key words for Marcel Muller (DR/Modena Engines), who at the end of the day is “only” sixth: he wins 3 heats and places 2nd in another, but his 19th place finish in the last one keeps him from doing as well as he could have.

Moving on to the top championship players on the eve of the Wackersdorf weekend: Douglas Lundberg (Alpha/Parilla) is currently fifth, while Simas Juodvirsis (Energy/Maxter) is down in 14th place (due to bad luck in his second heat). Fabian Federer (CRG/Maxter), third on the Genk podium, gets alternating results in the heats and, despite two best laps, he is down to 37th. Translated: he did not qualify for the prefinal; but he can still hope in tomorrow morning’s second chance heat. A final note goes to yesterday’s surprise driver Jorge Carlos Pescador (Praga/Parilla): today he took a remarkable fall back from 9th to 31st and even got hurt in a clash (eve if nothing major); he too has to make it in the top 6 of the second chance race, if he hopes to race the finals.
