[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he race to the European titles begin in Sarno.
Qualifying then the first Heats of the CIK-FIA European Championship today in Sarno (Italy): the race towards the European titles has begun at the International Circuit Napoli. The Italian facility hosts, this weekend, the first round of the KZ, OK and OK Junior European, Championship; the race started this morning with the Qualifying Practice to establish the grids of the Heats, which are still in progress. The last Heats will be run tomorrow and their output will define the access to the Finals, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Today’s first results gave us a rough idea of those who will be the likely protagonists of the decisive races, which will be streamed live on cikfia.tv and cikfiachampionship.com. Broadcast will start at 10:00am and will continue until the end of the Finals at 04:40pm. The recap of the whole weekend will be aired by Motorsport TV next week.

Puhakka and Hajek are the frontrunners in KZ.
The Finnish Simo Puhakka (Kosmic-Vortex-Bridgestone) was the fastest driver in today’s qualifying in KZ. His 55”748 was enough to beat the Italian Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM) for only two milliseconds. Anyway, the Czech Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex) stroke back in the heats (above, the start of one of the heats), where he won the first race ahead of the French Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM). Puhakka finished third but he immediately got his payback in the second race where he arrived first. Abbasse was the runner-up again, with De Conto third. The third and last heat will be run tomorrow morning.

Novalak and Pourchaire lead in OK.
The French Theo Pourchaire (Kosmic-Vortex-LeCont) had a good start in OK; he set the best time in the Qualifying Practice with 56”942, ahead of the Russian Pavel Bulantsev (Tony Kart-Vortex), who finished 38 milliseconds behind. Also in the OK there were 7 Heats today: Pourchaire and the English Clement Novalak (Tony Kart-Vortex) proved that they are the drivers to beat winning two races each. The other races were won by the Polish Karol Basz (Kosmic-Vortex, in the photo above ahead of Pourchaire), the Finnish Paavo Tonteri and the Spanish David Vidales (both on Tony Kart-Vortex): these drivers, too, stand a good chance to win the Final. There are still three Heats remaining, which will take place tomorrow morning, before the Finals in schedule tomorrow afternoon.

Bortoleto and O’Sullivan chase success in OKJ.
The best time of qualifying in the OKJ category (59”159) was set by the Dutch Kas Haverkort, who finished his best lap 19 milliseconds faster than the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (both CRG-Parilla-Vega). During the 7 heats which took place today, the best performance was achieved by Bortoleto and the English Zak O’Sullivan (FA Kart-Vortex) that won twice (in the photo above, the fight between O'Sullivan-223 and Bortoleto-217). Wins also for the British Jonny Edgar (Exprit-TM), the German O’neill Muth (Zanardi-Parilla) and the Italian Andrea Rosso (Tony Kart-Vortex): they succeeded once each. Lots of drivers can aim at the victory in the Final, even though there are still thee heats remaining to be run tomorrow morning.
