At the Kartodromo Internacional do Algarve, near the Portoguese town of Portimao, the first decisive battles for the European titles for OK and OK Junior are going to take place on the track which is hosting the last but one appointment of the European Championship. Today it was time for free practice, which teams and drivers will use to adjust the setup of their karts. There are 152 entrants to the event, which can also count on the drivers taking part in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy. Figures are, once again, outstanding: on the track set near the Atlantic Ocean, drivers are coming with their flags from 46 different countries from all the 5 continents. It is one of the many signals of the success achieved by this event in Portimao.

Karol Basz (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) is the frontrunner in the OK, besides being the World Champion of the former KF category. Last year, in Portimao, the Polish driver was not lucky while, on the contrary, the British Ben Hanley (Croc-TM) won the Final. Maybe a battle between them will take place but also the American Logan Sargeant (FA Kart-Vortex), the reigning Champion of the KF Junior and second in the OK standings ahead of the British Tom Joyner (Zanardi-Parilla), is ready to play his cards to attack the leader. In the OK Junior, where the leader is the Danish Noah Watt (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), the Brazilian Caio Collet (BirelArt-Parilla) has a very good memory of Portimao: he placed second in the 2015 Final. Now Collet is third in the OKJ, behind the Swedish Isac Blomqvist (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). Also the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy is going to be uncertain: the current leader is the English Callum Bradshaw, ready to be challenged by the French Thomas Mialane and the Danish Mads Hansen (all on Exprit-Vortex), who are second and third respectively.
