CIK-FIA KF EURO : ZUERA, THE WINNER IS TOM JOYNER
TKART Staff
31 May 2014

HOT NEWS - TKART - ZUERA – In the end it’s Tom Joyner (Zanardi/Parilla) who has his way in the super final of the queen category of non-shifter karts. The English driver and defending world champion uses his experience as best he can and does the right pass at the right time, smoking the competition.

The competition is "ruled" by Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic/Vortex), finally back on top where we were used to seeing him last year. The Dane manages to contain the incredibly fast Lando Norris (FA Kart/Vortex) and Niko Kari (Tony KArt/Vortex), who drives the fastest lap of the event. The two close the round fifth and fourth.
The true magic act, however, is by Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM): he suffers all weekend long and doesn’t seem able to keep up with the best, then in the final he sets off on a great climb from ninth on grid to  third on the podium, a result that weighs almost as much as victory.  What about Round 1 winner Callum Ilott? Twentieth. He couldn’t have done worse, considering in the first half of the weekend he seemed more competitive than his teammate. The prefinal is whenhe gambled his chances, with a daring pass on Gabriel Aubry that resulted in a penalty for his rival and in his own withdrawal, sending him down to the last spot on the start grid of the final. Here the best he could do was 20th.
Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex), on the contrary, was author of a great climb up: a grand total of 22 positions to close within the top 10 in 9th place. He was the only one, along with Kari and Hannes Janker (Zanardi/Parilla), who drove a lap in 1 minute, 1 second and 3 tenths. Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart/TM), Felice Tiene (CRG/TM) and Marco Maestranzi (Top Kart/TM) – respectively 6th, 7th and 8th – also did a great performance, although for different reasons. The French driver climbs up seven spots and catches up to the front runners, while the two Italians cross the line almost arm in arm. Tiene was slower than the heats, where he had conquered the lead, but does a good job at managing a top 10 position that still allows him to keep his eye on the title. Maestranzi’s result, instead, is a great ending to a Sunday that had begun with a second-chance admission to the finals after a couple of dreadful heats; it really seems that Top Kart found the right way to go on the technical plane.
