TKART Staff
22 May 2015

HOT NEWS - TKART - Circuito Int. De Zuera (Zuera - Spain) - Qualifying session and heats for the KZ and KZ2 in Spain, for the CIK-FIA European Championship. Alfie Brown is leader in the Academy Trophy.

KZ

Saturday of the second round of the KZ Championship starts with qualifying practice. It is Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) to gain pole position in the very last laps with a time 0.127 seconds faster than second fastest.

Behind the Italian we find Anthony Abbasse (Sodi /TM Racing) who is just in front of Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart/Vortex; + 0.160) and Ben Hanley (Croc Promotions/TM Racing; + 0.264). Behind follow: Bas Lammers (Formula K/Parilla; +0.316), Arnaud Kozlinski (Sodi/TM Racing; 0.377), Simo Puhakka (CRG/Maxter; 0.339) in seventh position.

A little bit in the shadow Jordon Lennox-Lamb (Birel Art/Parilla; 11° with 0.464 of delay), Paolo De Conto (CRG/Maxter; 13° at 0.494) and Jonathan Thonon (Praga/Parilla; 17° at 0.550)

In the heats Ardigò confirms he is in the best condition. Even in the third and last heat, where he looses a couple of positions after the start, he overtakes Hanley and Camponeschi, and then wins in front of his team mate. This shows that the World Champion is actually the real potential final winner of this race weekend.

The race in Sarno, though, has shown that until the last lap of the final nothing is yet defined. In the first round in fact Ardigò also seemed to be the potential winner, but instead ended up third.

To make everything more complicated to the Italian in this race is surely his team mate, Camponeschi, winner of het 2 today and starting second in the prefinal tomorrow.

Third, after the heats, are Ben Hanley and Arnaud Kozlinski. The two drivers, looking at lap times, at the moment are not at the level of the two official drivers of Tony kart, but the most points for the classification are going to be obtained tomorrow in the final. So there is still time to change everything.

Followers are Anthony Abbasse, Patrik Hajek, Lennox-Lamb, Jorrit Pex (Interpid/TM Racing), Andrea Dalè (CRG/Maxter), who obtains a good second place in heat 2, and Douglas Ludberg (Kosmic/Vortex).

We expect a recovery tomorrow, from Bas Lammers, Paolo De Conto and Simo Puhakka, respectively 13th, 11th and 19th.

KZ2

Also in KZ2 the day starts with qualifying practice, that finds Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart/Vortex) in front of team mate Paolo Besancenez. Third is the brilliant Joel Johansson (Energy Corse/TM Racing), who is in front of the unexpected man of the first round, Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG/Maxter). If for the drivers of the first positions in Sarno there is still a result within the first 15 drivers, worse is the situation of the leader of the Championship, Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart/Vortex), who ends up 31°. Very impressive are, anyway, the very small time differences: 26 drivers in only half a second.

In the heats it is Besancenez to impress, winning everything there is to win, starting first tomorrow in the prefinal. Behind him a reborn Johansson, in difficulty in the first round in Sarno, but always in the leading positions here in Spain. Very positive is also the third position by Francesco Celenta (Parolin/TM Racing), who also wins a heat, and who anticipates local driver Pedro Hiltbrand. The Spanish, also considering his lap times during the heats, is in good shape, at the same level of Besancenes and Johansson.
Two names to look at carefully, who are not in the very first positions, are Luca Corberi (Tony Kart/Vortex; 9°) and Jorge Pescador (Praga/Parilla; 11°). If they will manage to avoid accidents in the first laps of the prefinal, they will be able to be protagonists in the final.

A great recovery is requested instead to Alessio Piccini (Tony Kart/Vortex; 14°) Thomas Laurent (poleman and  21st after the heats) and Sean Babington (Energy/TM Racing; 22esimo), all capable of good results, but penalized in the intermediate classification dew to one or two placements in the rear positions.

A special comment regards the leader of the Championship after the first round: Andreas Fasberg (Tony Kart/Vortex). The Swedish, after the very negative 31st lap time in qualifying session, has been able to catch up to 16th position. Tomorrow any mistake from him will not be acceptable if he wants to return to the first positions in the final and hold strong to the leadership of the Championship.
