From videogames to top level tracks with GT Academy

14 June 2012

From Gran Turismo player to professional racer. The jump is made possible by GT Academy, the initiative by Playstation and Nissan that over the past three years has promoted young new talents in the world of real autos based on their skills on “virtual cars.”

At its fourth edition, GT Academy (a Europe-wide initiative) featured three “live” rounds across Italy in which players of the world’s most popular videogame battled each other. But no worries for those who couldn’t make it to the matches in  Rome, Catania and Milan, because the 16 who qualified for the national final on July 13 and 14 will be joined by just as many who manage to qualify on line by June 25th  (participation is open to all 18 year olds and up who own a PS3, by collencting directly from home to the Playstation Network).
During the final, the 32 will give each other virtual battle on Saturday, before taking to the real track at the Vallelunga Circuit the following Sunday for physical and driving tests.
Each area will determine six winners who will attend the GT Academy "Race Camp" in Silverstone, a "preparation center" for aspiring professionals. The 2012 GT Academy champion will then undergo one of the world’s most advanced driver coaching programs, with the possibility to try his chance at the 24 Hours in Dubai with a Nissan 370Z GT4, race version. Evidence of the worth of the GT Academy initiative is the fact that the winners of past editions (Lucas Ordoñez, Jordan Tresson, Jann Mardenborough and Bryan Heitkotter) are now currently involved in Nissan’s 2012 competitive season.
