High performance in all conditions

The 2022 WSK Super Master Series gave the drivers and their teams the opportunity to experience a wide range of conditions during the four races of this prestigious series, which was held from the end of January to mid-March. The tracks of Lonato, La Conca and Sarno each have different characteristics, while the rain sometimes influenced the competition. In any case, LeCont tyres played their role perfectly by providing performance and consistency to the participants in the OK category, which the Italian manufacturer supplied exclusively.

Always eagerly awaited by the international karting community, the WSK Super Master Series kept its promises in sporting and technical terms. For LeCont, it was a question of showing once again that the solid partnership with WSK Promotion was beneficial to all participants. The four events of the 2022 season provided a magnificent spectacle. However, behind the scenes it was not all plain sailing, as Paolo Bombara, Marketing Manager at LeCont, explained.

"Currently, we are still suffering the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, while we are already starting to feel the consequences of the war in Ukraine. In addition to the greatly increased production and transport costs, we are experiencing some difficulties in obtaining certain raw materials. Fortunately, our factory is constantly trying to anticipate such problems and to react promptly to certain knock-on effects, as was the case during the last round of the WSK Super Master Series. This meant the drivers were able to benefit from the quality of LeCont tyres at every race, from the first round in Lonato to the last round in Sarno. From Qualifying to the Final, our tyres confirmed their high level of performance.”

Impressive times

In Lonato, La Conca and Sarno, the powerful machines of the OK category were able to show themselves to their best advantage thanks to the competitiveness of the CIK-FIA approved "Prime" tyres. On the Neapolitan circuit of Sarno, the fastest lap of the Finals, all categories included, was achieved by the young Latvian Tomass Stolcermanis in 53"304, at an average speed of 104.68 km/h. This time is also a second and three tenths faster than the time set in the 2021 FIA Karting European Championship held on the same track.

The previous week, rain had fallen at La Conca, mainly on Saturday. The characteristics of the track's tarmac made the conditions particularly slippery. However, the hierarchy was not much different to the other races. The drivers and teams were able to adapt.

The four races saw four different winners: the Italian Luigi Coluccio in Lonato in January, the Finn Tuukka Taponen in Lonato in February, the Briton Joseph Turney in La Conca and the Frenchman Enzo Deligny in Sarno. The suspense lasted until the end for the title. Turney finally scored the most points against Japan's Kean Nakamura and the Briton Freddie Slater, two young drivers straight from OK-Junior. Lonato was the peak of the OK category, with a magnificent 60 drivers registered. And there were still 57 for the closing ceremony at the foot of Vesuvius!

"LeCont once again congratulates WSK Promotion and Luca de Donno's team for the quality of its organisation. We look forward to continuing this fruitful partnership during the next WSK series scheduled for the second half of the season. Despite the turbulence that the world is currently experiencing, we are now mobilised to offer the best possible service to the drivers during the major international competitions to come. The next step is the European KZ and KZ2 Championships, as well as the FIA Karting Academy Trophy," concluded Paolo Bombara.
