ROTAX GRAND FINALS - FINALS AND CHAMPIONS
TKART Staff
30 November 2014

HOT NEWS - TKART - This great edition of the Rotax Grand Finals has wrapped up crowing 4 drivers as champions out of 288 drivers from 58 countries. The ones who beat the difficulties of pouring rain on a challenging and technical track to become world winners are Jueri Vips from Estonia in the Junior, Carlos Gil from Spain in the Senior, the Brit Sean Babington (racing for the Arab Emirates) in the DD2 and the Finn Mikko Laine in the DD2 Masters. Australia wins the Nations Cup, proving once again to be a growing "school".

Junior Final
Baciuska dominated the entire weekeend, but in the super final the Lithuanian was forced to leave the way to rivals that nobody expected to see up front. With a great turn of events, the first off the grid ahead of everyone are Jueri Vips and  Dave Wooder, in a dash from 8th and 6th place, with Timmermans following in defense of his third place in the standings. After a few laps the duo of Vips and Wooder pulled away, truning the race into an intense two-kart duel until the last beats, when Timmermans joined the exchange of blows fro the leadership. In the end it is Vips who corsses the finish line first, with Wooder right behind, off by just 7 tenths and keeping Timmermans in 3rd place.

Senior Final
The super final of the 125 MAX class produced the duel everyone expected  between Portuguese driver Bruno Borlido and his super rival from Spain Carlos Gil. After the race-long exchange of breathtaking passes, the Spaniard crossed the finish line first by a little over half a second on Borlido. The thid step of the world podium was conquered by ACanadian Claman-Demelo, on a great rebound from 6th on grid. Best lap by Oeberg from sweden.

DD2 Final
This is the only final that took place under clear skies cleaned by strong winds and a track quickly transitioning from wet to dry, complicating set-up and tire choices for everyone. Even so, Sean Baington (British but driving for the Arab Emirates) proved that he has what it takes to be the champion: first from the start of the weekend (pole and victory in all thre heats) under the rain and again first from the start to the end of the super final with the sun shining, scoring the fast lap too. To be homnoest, the class left no room for contention. In fact, the podium was rounded off by Ben Cooper and Jordan Boys, 2nd and3rd from start to finish.

DD2 MAsters Final
The pouring rain made this last match even tougher. everyone was already expecting a tight battle between Cristiano Morgado, leader all weekend long, and Martin Pierce, who at the start of the final was second in the standings by just one point. All Pierce needed was one lap and he had his way on the South African, who then progressively lost ground. With the way open, it is Mikko Laine, the other great star of the weeken and 3rd at the go, who engages the Irish driver in a tough battle for the top spot until the end. In the end, the duel between the two gets resolved in favor of Pierce, but only momentarily: first at the checkered, the Irish driver is then disqualified for a non-compliant technicality and has to hand his crown to Laine, autghor of the best lap. Morgado thus gets to rise from third to second and Australian Adam Hunter gets the satisfaction of crowning a great rebound by stepping on the last step of the world podium.
