TKART Staff
26 September 2022

At the FIA Karting World Championship in Sarno, the DJT engine wins the 'Junior' final with Enzo Tarnvanichkul and obtains the third place with Jan Przyrowski. In the OK class, on the other hand, the DST unit brings home second and third place with Tuukka Taponen and Oscar Pedersen.

OKJ – The DJT engine conquers the World title in the Junior class of the single-gear karts at the Italian circuit of Sarno. From the sixth place at the starting grid, after a series of four victories in the qualifying heats, Enzo Tarnvanichkul (Tony Kart Racing Team) sets one overtaking after another and takes the reins of the race at the beginning of lap 8. From then on, there is no more for anyone, with the Thai driver deservedly taking the title of World Champion. A great demonstration of his abilities also by Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart Racing Team), very fast in the whole weekend and author of the victory in Super Heat A. Unfortunately, the Polish driver is involved in a collision at the first corner and drops back to 15th place, but with obstinacy he recovers to third place.
In a final that sees almost 1/3 of the grid with Vortex engines at the start, the Top 6 sees two more drivers with DJT engines: Maciej Gladysz (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) finishes 4th after a good run in the qualifying heats and a haul that includes a win and a fastest lap, while Dmitry Matveev (Koski Motorsport) moves up 15 places and finishes 6th. At the start of the final we also find Salim Hanna (Ricky Flynn Motorsport), with a best lap in the qualifying heats, Kirill Dzitiev (Ward Racing), also author of a fast lap in the heats, Marcus Saeter (Ward Racing), winner of a heat on Saturday, Leo Nilsson (Ward Racing), first in the E-H qualifying heat, Gabriel Moura (Tony Kart Racing Team), Guillaume Bouzar (Koski Motorsport) and Thomas Strauven (Ricky Flynn Motorsport).

OK – The weekend of the premier class of the single-gear karts opens with the pole position of Maxim Rehm (Ricky Flynn Motorsport), the fastest driver with a time of 57.047, and two more DST engines in the first four positions of the timed practice, to continue in the qualifying heats with 6 victories (40% of the heats scheduled) and 4 fastest laps. In addition, Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team) also achieves an important success in Super Heat A, which ensures the reigning World Champion a front row seat in the final.
Among the 36 attendants to Sunday afternoon's decisive race, there are 10 drivers with Vortex engines. For almost the entire final, it is Oscar Pedersen (Ward Racing) playing for the World title, joined by Taponen in the final laps. The two Nordic drivers come close to success, with Taponen vice-champion and Pedersen on the lowest step of the podium. In his first appearance in the OK World Championship and champion of the OKJ class in 2020, Freddie Slater (Ricky Flynn Motorsport) finishes positively in fifth place.
Remarkable comeback of 22 positions for James Egozi (Tony Kart Racing Team), who finishes on the fringes of the Top 10. Following the ranking we find, in order, Ean Eyckmans (Ward Racing), Juho Valtanen (Tony Kart Racing Team), Maksimilian Popov (Ward Racing) and Rehm. An accident on the first lap forces David Walther (Koski Motorsport) and Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart Racing Team) to stop.
