WSK Euro Series, rd 1, Sarno: KZ2 Final - Longhi reverses a bad weekend and wins the race
Max Bernardi
12 July 2020

Tyres: Vega

  • Until this morning Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), from the Birel Art / Charles Leclerc squad, seems to be among the least on the ball drivers. A revised and spot-on setup, in addition to the risky but winning move to start the pre-final with 4 new tyres, earned him the win in both the Prefinal and the Final. At the end of the race, the Italian dedicated the victory to Claudio Flenghi, founder of TM Racing, who passed away a few hours earlier.

  • Another surprise of the day is Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart - Sodikart - TM Racing). The Frenchman, after the pole on Friday, didn't seem to be up to his fastest competitors. His second place in the final made everyone think again, especially the writer.

  • TM Racing hat-trick is completed by the third step of the podium obtained by Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing). The Italian probably does not collect a result up to his potential due to a mistake in the first stages he was unable to recover from.

  • The one who can say to be disappointed is certainly Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex): the Finn, with the victory in the heats at the end of the day yesterday, seemed the man to beat. Second in the Prefinal, Puhakka misses the start in the final and finds himself among the chasers in a category where the differences are measured in the order of thousandths of a second and in which those who follow should hope for a mistake by those ahead of them rather than for a real overtaking opportunity. Puhakka will finish fourth, behind Palomba, who also finds himself chasing the leaders but unable to gain ground once he lost it in favor of his opponents.

  • From fifth position onwards Jeremy Iglesias (Formula K Racing Team - Formula K - TM Racing), Alessandro Irlando (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), Lorenzo Camplese (SC Performance - Tony Kart - Vortex), Viktor Gustafsson ( Leclerc by LEnnox Racing - Birel Art - TM Racing), Jean Nomblot (CPB Sport - Sodikart - TM Racing) and Savik Putyatin (CPB Sport - Sodikart - TM Racing).

  • Weekend to forget for Matteo Viganò (Leclerc by Lennox Racing - Birel Art - TM Racing). The Italian, who seemed to be one of the contenders for the final victory, after retiring in the last heat on Saturday due to a failure completes two races that were one worse than the other in the pre-final and final, finishing only in 17th place .
