WSK SUPER MASTER SERIES: ROUND 1, SATURDAY REVIEW
TKART Staff
06 March 2015

HOT NEWS - TKART - ADRIA - The 2015 WSK Super Master Series for now seems to belomg to the usual suspects.  In KF and in KZ2 there doesn’t seem to be any room for surprises as the most likely names are setting the pace. Instead, the KFJ is still in the sparring phase (they will wrap the heats up tomorrow) and for now is presenting a more balanced situation. Last, but not least, the Mini is offering us a thrilling battle, with a couple of names clearly stronger than the others. Below a full review of the three clategories that have wrapped up their qualification heats.

KZ2

In the category that always commands the greatest attention among industry operators and fans Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) is still the king. The defending KZ world champion proves he is the man to beat, winning all three of today’s heats, after yesterday’s pole position. Instead, his teammate Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart/Vortex) slides down to 9th in the charts, after an unfortunate heat (15th). The runner-up position goes to Anthony Abbasse (Sodikart/TM), who conquers the top spot for tomorrow’s second prefinal by winning one of the heats and putting up a great fight in the others. The Praga duo of Jorge Pescador and Patrick Hajek (Praga/Parilla) defend the team’s name and make up for Jonathan Thonon’s absence by placing  third and fourth. Their Belgian teammate, in fact, is in the hospital, waiting to become dad. Staying on the topic of nice surprises, Lorenzo Camplese (Formula K/Parilla) rose to an unexpected fifth place standing, thanks to his performance in the last heat, where he managed to keep up to Marco Ardigò, closing second behind him and setting some of the day’s fastest laps. Jordon Lennox-Lamb (Birel ART/Parilla) also improved his position from the qualifyings by wrapping up the day in sixth place. Right behind him there is Davide Fore (CRG/Maxter), always among the best, despite his age. Mirko Torsellini (Ricciardo/TM) also improved through the day and is now eighth. Camponeschi, as we said is ninth, and Rick Dreezen (Zanardi/Parilla) wraps up the top 10, giving hopes that he may return to being like he was last year.

KF

Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Karol Basz (Kosmic/Vortex)are again 1-2 ahead of everyone. At the end of today’s heats, the Dane and the Pole confirm they are the strongest of the KF in this year’s WSK Super Master Series. Behind them the chart gives the surprise name of Martijn Van Leeuwen (CRG/TM), who yesterday was only eighth in the qualifyings. An interesting fact of today’s results is that the top 12 spots belong to the same names as yesterday, even if with some shuffling of positions. Click here to see the order. Overall, except for the lead duo, the KF is offering a balanced field so far. A note of mention goes to Benjamin Hanley (Croc Promotion/TM) for rebounding from 24th to 13th and  to Juri Vips (FA Kart/Vortex) from 27th to 14th. While these two moved up today, two others went down:  Juan Correa (Energy/TM) slid from 15th to 22nd and Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG/Parilla from 13th to 23rd. This said, tomorrow’s double prefinal might overturn the ranks, even if Nielsen and Basz would have to put in a special effort to lose control of the weekend. Yet, as we know, anything can happen in karting.

MINI

Mattia Michelotto (Energy/Iame) is confirmed the role of lead star conquered yesterday with pole position, by winning all three of his heats. Leonardo Marseglia (CRG/TM) secured the top spot for tomorrow’s other prefinal with two 2nd place finishes and a victory, powered by the new TM Mini engine. The other star name, Dennis Hauger (CRG/TM), is the 3rd best in class at this point, while Alberto Rocco Negro (Top Kart/TM) and Mattia Muller (Energy/TM) round off the top 5. Giuseppe Fusco (Tony Kart/LKE), who recently joined Baby Race follows in sixth place, but he is the best of the drivers racing with LKE engines, which a few weeks ago were monopolizing the category .
