In 2019 the latest version of the Arai SK6 was launched on the market, the top of the range of the Japanese company for helmets dedicated to karting. Snell 2020 approved, it derives from the model with the same name Snell 2015, to which some improvements have been made (such as changes to the interior ventilation system, increased by about 11%). Available in two versions, you can buy the SK6 in the “classic” version or in the “PED” version, already equipped with spoilers applied to the chin guard and the nape of the neck. As far as the basic version is concerned, Arai makes available to customers the same aerodynamic appendages, which can be purchased separately. Both models have a shell made of fiberglass and superfiber, two materials that, combined, make this helmet even safer. There is therefore no carbon version: In fact, Arai only uses it for F1 helmets (such as the GP7 model), where the fiber is mandatory in accordance with the regulations but it considers this material unsuitable for the construction of its helmets dedicated to karting, being extremely rigid, so much so that it tends to break when it receives blows, therefore making it less able to absorb them.
The main innovation of the SK6 lies in the interior: Arai uses a particular technique for making this part of its helmets that produces a polystyrene shell of various densities, making it more compact in the neuralgic areas, giving greater protection to the most dangerous points in the event of an accident. Francesco Bombarda, of Ber Racing Europe, guarantees that “Arai is the only helmet manufacturer to use this manufacturing system”.
When you purchase a helmet you receive a package containing the helmet and visor, a helmet bag, a kit of original Arai stickers, a key for the visor screws, the maintenance booklet and the PED kit (spoilers) for the version that has them. There are two options, so the price varies according to which one you choose to buy: the basic version costs 619 Euros, while the PED costs 709 Euros.
