NEW 2017 EXPRIT KART: CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Max Bernardi
02 January 2017
The challenge for the engineers working at OTK, the group that produces the chassis for the Exprit brand, was to take another step forward from an already sky-high level. An initial analysis reveals that the goal seems to have been achieved thanks to the NOESIS S and THOOS S chassis

NOESIS S and THOOS S. These are the names of the 2017 Exprit chassis for non-shifter and shifter classes, the results not of a drastic departure from previous models, but of a steady improvement thanks to the adoption of new machinery on the OTK production line.

The Noesis S has a frame made of 30 mm diameter chromium molybdenum steel tubes, while the other one uses 32 mm tubes. However, both have the option of modifying the height of both the front and rear ends, as well as the camber and caster adjustment system using multi-hole eccentric bushings with built-in uniball. Both frames also feature developments concerning the attachments of the steering column support and the front bumper attachment, while the central flange is forged and specifically designed for the silencers of the new OKJ and OK engines.

In general, the improvements made on the 2017 chassis have focussed on decreasing the overall weight, which is of vital importance when deciding where best to locate any weight boxes required to reach the minimum weight limit. A particular mention goes to the new 1.5 mm thickness floor tray and the single-piece chain guard support made of a new, lighter material. The accelerator cable register and the gearwheel support hub, now fitted with two screws, are also new.

The most significant difference between the two chassis is the shape of the frame, with the one developed for the KZ class designed to adapt effectively to the larger engine size. In light of this, for example, the seat support attachments have been modified to allow the engine to sit perfectly.

The most important change concerns the braking system, in which a new brake caliper called BSD stands out in particular. Its main features is that it is forged in a single piece and, therefore, no longer consists of two halves. The result is increased stiffness, as well as performance stability and strength that improve braking.

All OTK accessories are made of magnesium. The pedals are made of forged aluminium and are adjustable to allow drivers of all sizes to find a comfortable driving position.
The KZ list of equipment includes a totally new clutch lever with a revised design to improve ergonomics and allow mounting on various types of steering wheel hub, including angled ones.
Exprit chassis are equipped with M6s, the latest model designed and developed directly by OTK. Initially designed using CAD 3D, the projects were then analysed using CFD software (Computational Fluid Dynamics), which uses the computer to perform simulations of aerodynamic penetration. A wind tunnel was then used to confirm the efficiency of the shapes obtained thanks to various tests with the driver actually sitting in the kart. Lastly, the graphics are also completely new. Designed to give Exprit karts a modern, tough and determined look.
