On the occasion of the 4th round of the OK and OKJ 2021 FIA Karting European Championship in Zuera we saw how some top teams try to prevent small debris from entering the engine, causing significant damage. ELASTIC FABRIC ON THE INTAKE SILENCER

When the terrain surrounding a track is particularly sandy, the wind often brings small debris, dust and sand onto it. The likelihood that this debris can unexpectedly enter the intake silencer and, subsequently, the engine, is very high. One solution to reduce the likelihood of this happening is to apply a layer of elastic fabric to the intake silencer tubes. Obviously, this measure also somewhat reduces the engine's air intake capacity, minimising the engine’s performance.
