6 quizzes about kart radiators

The radiator is the main component of the liquid cooling circuit of kart engines and is therefore an accessory that plays a crucial role both for the performance and reliability of engines. Precisely for this reason, in the articles "Technique - The radiator" and "Technique - Cylinder cooling" TKART revealed everything there is to know about its operation and which parameters and variables affect it the most. To try, however, to really dispel all the doubts that most kart drivers have on their minds, we turned to PWR (Paul Weel Radiators), an Australian company specialised in the production of cooling systems for motorsport, partner of Formula 1, Indycar and WEC. Our choice fell specifically on a company outside the world of karting in order to obtain "impartial" answers. PWR Europe's European technical team answered 6 questions/doubts that all kart drivers ask themselves sooner or later. Here they are:

1. THE FRONT AREA OF THE RADIATOR IS THE ONLY FACTOR THAT DETERMINES COOLING

2. ALUMINIUM IS THE BEST MATERIAL FOR RADIATORS BECAUSE IT EXCHANGES HEAT BETTER

3. AT THE SAME VOLUME, HAVING A THICK AND NARROW RADIANT MASS OR A THIN AND WIDE MASS IS THE SAME THING

4. THERE ARE FEWER FINS ON KART RADIATORS THAN CARS, BECAUSE THE SPEEDS ARE LOWER

5. THE HEAT EXCHANGE OF THE RADIATOR DECREASES IF THE CIRCUIT IS SLOW

6. WATER PRESSURE AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF RADIATORS
