It was an unconventional Monday 30 January 2023 in Lonato. South Garda Karting was theoretically "closed" because in just 48 hours it will host the first sessions of an international competition, the first round of the WSK Super Master Series, and any activity on the track is prohibited by the regulations. Yet, around mid-morning, the roar of two engines breaks the silence and two Shifter karts begin to tread the asphalt. They are precisely two Energy Corse chassis (Eclipse the number 37 and Kinetic the number 23) powered by TM Kart KZ-R1 engines. Behind the wheel, however, are not two drivers who will be participating in the upcoming event. Instead, they are two former kart drivers: their names are Alexander Albon and Nick Cassidy. But let's rewind the tape of events…

The Formula 1 season is upon us and, to be ready, Alexander Albon chose to train behind the wheel of a kart. It is now more of a tradition than a novelty, because, just like many of his colleagues, the official Williams Racing driver often goes back to his roots. This time he does it in the company of an old friend, Nick Cassidy (New Zealand Formula E driver with the Envision Racing team), and thanks to the Energy Corse team. To welcome the Thai driver to the South Garda Karting, moreover, there are the very same people who raised him when he was still a kart driver.
