JARNO TRULLI:
THE RACE THAT DECIDED HIS DESTINY

The first memory I have is of Jarno standing on the seat of his dad's kart, clasping the steering wheel to help him stand up. He must have been less than two years old. The first memory out on the track, on the other hand, is quite a tale.
I am eight years older than Jarno, but I have known his family forever: my cousin worked as a tuner for Enzo, Jarno's father, when he used to go karting. I didn't have the money to race, but in order to be part of that world, I used to work as a part-time mechanic and after graduating I started doing the job full time. In 1987, I was in Viverone for the Italian Championship: in the practice session before qualifying Osman Trecca, the driver I was there for, ended up going off the track.
