It was 1953 and in the small laboratory of the Rocket Chemical Company, a company founded in that year by the chemist Norm Larsen in San Diego (California), an unusual request arrived: NASA (acronym for “National Aeronautics and Space Administration”) was looking, among its suppliers, for someone who could provide them with a water-repellent lubricant to solve the problems of corrosion and protection of the electrical contacts on space rockets. The Rocket Chemical team, made up of three members, smelt a golden opportunity and immediately got to work by starting to experiment with different formulas that could meet the request of the American space agency. The path was not without obstacles: there were 39 unsuccessful experiments. However, on the fortieth attempt the winning formulation was found. This is how WD-40 was developed, where WD stands for “Water Displacement" (water repellent), while the "40"... Indicates the number of the successful test! From that moment on, the WD-40 multi-purpose and multi-purpose lubricant became a reference point all over the world, thanks to its incredibly versatile qualities. Nowadays, we all (or almost all) use, or have used, WD-40 to work or carry out maintenance on a kart, which is why we can safely say that this product is one of the best "friends" of the kart driver.
