A magnificent victory in OK at Cremona
TKART Staff
13 February 2024

While Birel ART continues to achieve exceptional results in KZ2, its development in OK met with success at the second round of the WSK Super Master Series in Cremona. Ean Eyckmans literally dominated the premier class of direct-drive karts, taking a significant victory and the lead in the provisional standings. At the same time, Cristian Bertuca in KZ2 and David Moscardi in Mini took the final podium places, confirming the versatility of the Lissone-based brand at the start of the season.

Held in rainy conditions until the Prefinals, the Cremona event confirmed the extent of the Birel ART Racing team's mastery of international competition. Cristian Bertuca put in a string of exceptional performances in the KZ2 class, from the Qualifying Heats through to the Prefinal, without ever dropping out of 1st place. Less at ease on the dry track in the Final, he nevertheless finished 3rd and strengthened his position as championship leader. In much the same way, David Moscardi put in a superb faultless run at the front of the Mini category before finishing 3rd in the Final, which moved him up six places to 4th in the championship.

The work done in OK under the guidance of Jordon Lennox was rewarded by the victory of Ean Eyckmans after a first-rate performance. Up 12 places during the Qualifying Heats, the young Belgian driver won his Prefinal in the rain before putting in a strong performance on a dry track that was difficult to handle during the Final. The undisputed winner by more than two seconds, he moved up three places in the championship to 1st position. Two other drivers also shone in OK. Noah Wolfe (VAR by Birel) made a big comeback in the heats before taking 3rd place in his Prefinal, which gave him 3rd place on the grid for the Final, in which he was unfortunately unable to take part. Mees Houben put in his best performance in the Final, finishing in the top 10 following a five-place improvement.

In KZ2, Bertuca wasn't the only driver in the team to prove highly competitive. His pole position in Qualifying was complemented by 2nd place for Daniel Vasile, 3rd for Artem Severiukhin and 4th for Pedro Hiltbrand, giving Birel ART a winning quartet. At the end of the Qualifying Heats, six Birel ART chassis were in the top 10, before Severiukhin gave his team a second Prefinal victory with the fastest lap of the race. While the dry conditions of the Final changed the situation, Severiukhin secured a rewarding 5th place, while Vasile and Jean Luyet brought the number of Birel ART chassis in the top 10 of the race to four, with five in the top 10 of the championship.

"We can be justifiably delighted with our results at Cremona", said Ronni Sala, President of Birel ART, "It's a great satisfaction to see our performances rewarded simultaneously in several categories. Our rise to prominence in the OK category from the third 2024 event is extremely positive. I'd like to congratulate Ean Eyckmans on the quality of his performance, as well as Jordon Lennox, our OK team manager. Mees Houben and Noah Wolfe have confirmed our competitiveness in this category. Our results in KZ2 are also very gratifying. Cristian Bertuca can fully express his talent under our colours, while his teammates Daniel Vasile, Artem Severiukhin, Pedro Hiltbrand and Jean and Samuel Luyet are capable of shining on many occasions. Finally, David Moscardi's competitiveness in Mini is very important for our brand.”

The Birel ART Racing Team is looking forward to next weekend at Franciacorta for the third round of the WSK Super Master Series.
