The appeal presented by Chiesa Corse at the last round of the WSK Master Series has been welcomed: the English driver Callum Ilott (Zanardi/Parilla) gets the title in the series by WSK Promotion. This is the news, but to better understand it, we need to put all the pieces back together.
The third and final round of the WSK Masters Series closed on April 1st with an asterisk: the KF3 category had, in fact, produced two champions, Ilott and Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/Vortex) from the Baby Race team, both authors of a splendid championship. In prefinal B of the last event raced in Castelletto di Branduzzo (Italy), Ilott had a problem with his rear bumper after a contact: it was only on the last lap that race directors waved the black flag with the orange circle (which means the kart is non-compliant and the driver has to withdraw from the race or repair it within 3 laps). Ilott went on to do the last lap and finished his prefinal in 2nd place; he was then later disqualified for “non-compliance” at the inspection phase and the Chiesa Corse team immediately filed for appeal. So the standings got “frozen” from that moment on: Ilott, 2nd also in the final, conquered the points he needed to take the title, but of course his situation remained “sub-judice”. Until today: now that his appeal has been welcomed, the English driver can celebrate this important title with the Chiesa Corse team (even if on track he is supported by an outfit headed by Oliver Oakes, 2005 world karting champion), that is also winner of the category Master Cup.
