The news is now official: Lewis Hamilton has signed with Mercedes AMG in Formula 1. He’s going to take the same wheel that over these past few years belonged to Michael Schumacher and will rejoin with Nico Rosberg, his old teammate in the days of kart.
A few years ago (2000 and 2001), in fact, the two raced on the same team, MBM, under the protective wing of Dino Chiesa, today owner of Chiesa Corse: “I am so happy about this; they started out with the goal of growing together, then they took different paths for several reasons. Now they’re back together and the most interesting thing will be to see if Nico (Rosberg, ed.) is much stronger: these last years he’s always been ahead of Schumacher who’s collected a lot of successes (7 world titles, ed.), but he was no longer a kid, so it was hard to assign him an actual value as a driver. I’m not sure who’s the stronger of the two, we’ll find out in a couple of months” - says Dino Chiesa, at the time the couple’s Team Manager (when they raced with CRG karts), who also adds: “I hope they’ll call me up if a spot opens up in Mercedes: I wouldn’t skip a heartbeat to work with these two again…”.
