Perfect start for LeCont in WSK
TKART Staff
09 February 2022

2022 promises to be another important season for tyre manufacturer LeCont. The quality of its products, its knowledge and its rigorous organisation have enabled it to establish or continue partnerships with major karting players. January was marked by the resumption of WSK Promotion events on the Lonato circuit, where the performance of CIK-FIA-homologated LeCont tyres ensured the satisfaction of the drivers and teams involved.

The WSK series continues to occupy a key position in the international karting landscape, as Paolo Bombara, LeCont's Marketing Manager, clearly recognises. "For the past fifteen years, WSK Promotion has been putting on high quality events. We are extremely pleased and proud to be one of the partners of this benchmark institution. The extension of our agreements proves that LeCont has done an excellent job in 2021, providing products that meet the high demands of competitors."

Low temperatures but high performance!

Already in the WSK Champions Cup, which took place on the weekend of 23rd January, the OK category contributed to the show offered during three days. Italy's Danny Carenini (KR-IAME / Team Driver Racing Kart) got the better of Maksimilian Popov (Tony Kart / Vortex) in the Final to beat the young Russian. Britain's Coskun Irfan (Parolin-IAME / Ward Racing) completed the podium. In the paddock of Lonato, the structures and the drivers were even more numerous the following week for the first of the four events of the WSK Super Master Series. No less than 49 drivers were entered in OK this time: a very significant number considering the very early start to the season. This time it was Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart-Vortex / Tony Kart Racing Team) who triumphed ahead of Britain's Freddie Slater (LN-Vortex / RFM), a transfer from Junior, and the surprisingly strong Polish driver Gustaw Wisniewski (Exprit-TM / Forza Racing).

"I think that the tone of the season is set and that promises us more great races. I am very pleased to see that LeCont tyres are helping to ensure a high level of performance, sporting fairness, which is very important to us, and consistency over the course of an event. Despite the sometimes very cold temperatures at the beginning of the day, the drivers always enjoyed a high degree of grip. The pole position for the first round of the Super Master Series, with all the class leaders present, was achieved in the same tenth as that of the WSK Open Cup in September 2021, when the thermometer was about 20 degrees warmer. We also noticed very similar times in the Prefinals and Finals, which is proof of stable performance over time. It is true that LeCont has prepared perfectly for the new season and that the winter tests in Adria had already made us optimistic about the competitiveness of our products in various conditions. The prospects are good for 2022."

Three categories in FIA Karting

In addition to this important partnership with WSK Promotion, LeCont will celebrate its ninth year of presence in the FIA Karting Championships. As in 2018, the Italian brand has been selected by the International Federation as the exclusive supplier of "Prime" type tyres for the KZ and KZ2 categories, as well as "Option" type tyres for the Academy Trophy. "It will be a pleasure to meet the best KZ drivers in the world again and to join the KZ2 drivers, who will return to the "World Cup" designation on the Le Mans circuit next September, which from our point of view is an excellent decision. We are undoubtedly very happy that this return to a 'KZ2 World Cup' will be carried out on LeCont tyres, and moreover on the prestigious site of Le Mans, on a circuit that we are very fond of," concluded Paolo Bombara.
