It was a winning weekend for Supertune at the opening round of the 2020 United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS). With four drivers competing across multiple classes, Supertune was the class of the field in the KA100 Junior field taking the victory in Sunday's main event. With Mateo Rubio-Luengo scoring the win, Supertune and Tony Kart started their USPKS championship chase off on the right foot.
"Saturday was a good day for us on track, but we all wanted more. We put our heads together and worked hard for Sunday," explained Ben Cruttenden. "Improving results across the board in all classes, Mateo and John were able to go one-two on track in the KA100 Junior while they also improved finishing position in the X30 Pro Junior category."
With Rubio-Luengo garnering the best Supertune result on Saturday, a bumper penalty took the KA100 Junior class win away from him, elevating Supertune teammate John Burke to a fourth-place result while Rubio-Luengo was classified in fifth. Returning to the track on Sunday, the duo flipflopped finishing positions but also moved to the head of the field claiming first and second before a technical infraction on a rental engine moved Burke to the tail of the result sheet. Burke was also the biggest mover in Saturday's main event gaining thirteen positions to earn his top-five finish.
In the X30 Pro Junior class, the same two competitors improved from their 11th and 27th place results to end the day eighth and 12th with Burke getting the upper hand. Showing great speed all weekend long and looking to challenge for the win, Burke's X30 Pro Junior results were hindered by on track incidents which eventually classified him further down the order than his pace had proven to be. Continuing to gain experience behind the wheel, Haopeng Zhang competed in the X30 Pro category and showed steady improvement throughout the weekend.
Cruttenden continued, "It was a hot and humid weekend in Indiana, but we persevered through and got the results we deserved. This was a great opportunity to complete laps for events at the same facility later this year as well as it was great to be back at the track with our friends and competitors."
