The WSK Euro Series, held over three events in 2021, came to a close at the Sarno International Circuit. As in Adria two weeks earlier, the drivers, teams and tyre manufacturers had to deal with the high temperatures at the foot of Vesuvius, which led to a build-up of tyre rubber on the Neapolitan track. In these extreme conditions, the LeCont tyres in the OK category shone with their consistency and level of performance, as reflected in the impressive times achieved throughout the event.
As usual, the Italian brand LeCont took particular care in supplying this major WSK Promotion event, which resulted in the awarding of prestigious new titles. "This partnership is very important for LeCont, we are both happy and proud of the extremely positive feedback we had during this Euro Series," said Paolo Bombara, Marketing Manager. On the track, all indicators were green for LeCont, with tyres offering perfect braking stability, optimal grip in the curve, efficiency from the very first laps and above all consistency throughout the races.
From the first to the last lap, the time gaps between the fastest laps were no greater than three tenths of a second on the Sarno circuit, which brings together all the challenges that a track can have! This desire on the part of LeCont to ensure perfect sporting fairness in terms of tyres enabled many teams, chassis brands and engine manufacturers to show their performance. In total, no less than 15 different drivers were able to finish in the top five during the Qualifying Heats.
The absolute fastest lap of the meeting for the OK category
In Sarno, Bulgarian Nikola Tsolov set the fastest lap of the meeting with 53"411 (and even 53"150 in the Sunday warm-up) with his LeCont "prime" tyres, all categories included! In Adria, the lap record in the Finals was set by OK driver Tymoteusz Kucharczyk. "This was a clear confirmation of the performances recorded by LeCont in Sarno, both in March at the WSK Super Master Series and in June at the Italian Championship where we equip several categories."
On the track, the WSK Euro Series ended with another victory for Arvid Lindblad in the Final. The Prefinals had been won by Nikola Tsolov and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, but the Briton celebrated his title from the top step of the podium. While Joe Turney finished 3rd in the Final in Sarno behind Tsolov, Ugo Ugochukwu was able to increase his points tally to take the runner-up title ahead of Tymoteusz Kucharczyk. "The WSK Euro Series as a whole has been very exciting," confirmed one of the top 10 drivers. "I think LeCont tyres would have been a great choice for the 2021 FIA Karting Championships."
"We are already looking forward to returning to WSK in September for the first of the two Open Cup events, before concluding the season at the WSK Final Cup," continued Paolo Bombara. "In the meantime, there will be plenty of work to do. Recently, we were delighted to have been selected by the Australian federation KA (Karting Australia) as the exclusive tyre supplier for almost all the official categories for the period between 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2026. LeCont's reputation increases every year and this confirms our desire to continue our efforts and our development work to offer our technology to other championships and other countries. We would also like to return to FIA Karting, but this will of course depend on the calls for tenders. In recent months, the situation with Covid-19 has not been easy to manage and I hope that the federations will be able to adjust their tender calendars, so that the manufacturers can anticipate the constraints and be able to organise themselves in terms of logistics to best respond to the various requests."
