Taylor Barnard has taken the victory in the OK final of the first round of WSK Open Cup at South Garda Karting (Lonato). The Rosberg driver dominated the whole race while Kirill Smal and Joe Turney completed the podium.
The day started with the shocking retirement of Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart/Vortex/Bridg) in his first ever race with the Tony Kart Racing Team. The Italian was out of prefinal A in which once again we saw the duel between Taylor Barnard (KR/Iame/Bridg) and Kirill Smal (Tony Kart/Vortex/Bridg) that finished with race victory for Barnard.
It was a prefinal that was not so much accident-packed but where we had big comebacks, especially from Jan Holzem (KR/Iame/Bridg) who made a comeback of 9 positions and Markus Kajak (Tony Kart/Vortex/Vega) who after an amazing start finished in eighth place, also gaining 9 positions.
In prefinal B, Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex/Bridg) made a very quick start taking the lead and dominating the whole race over the pole sitter, Norton Andreasson (Tony Kart/Vortex/Bridg) who withstood the attacks from Pedro Hiltbrand (Tony Kart/Vortex/Bridg).
The final started with Turney on pole alongside Barnard. The Rosberg Racing Academy driver made a better start and took the race lead in front of Kirill Smal. Turney was just behind them as Hiltbrand completed the top 4.
Immediately, Barnard pulled away from Smal who was under pressure from Turney. But the positions did not change and Taylor Barnard took the victory in front of Smal and Turney.
