Luca Basso
24 April 2021

Activity continues on the track for the first round of the WSK Super Master Series at South Garda Karting in Lonato. After the first day of Friday, in which the qualifying and the first qualifying heats took place, on Saturday all the remaining qualifying heats were held for the four categories present in the race: KZ2, OK, OKJ and MINI. The starting grids for Sunday's pre-finals were then decided.

KZ2: Emilien Denner firmly on the top, Francesco Celenta follows him

Tires: Vega

  • Emilien Denner (Intrepid Driver Program - Intrepid - TM Racing) continues to hold the lead. After taking pole position yesterday in qualifying, the French driver achieved two wins, a 2nd place and also a fastest lap. He is surprising for the speed shown on the track despite being in the second race of the season.

  • Francesco Celenta (Parolin Motorsport - Parolin - TM Racing) administers the second place yesterday and is confirmed after the series of preliminary heats in the same position. The Italian driver has about the same results as Denner (two wins, a second place and two fastest laps), but loses the comparison with the Frenchman in the only heat played together.

  • Alex Irlando (CRG Racing Team - CRG - TM Racing) gains one position and is third in the standings. Marijn Kremers (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing) climbs three positions thanks to a victory and overtakes Viktor Gustavsson (Leclerc by Lennox Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), with the Swede third in the championship before this last one appointment. Juho Valtanen (KR Motorsport - KR - TM Racing), 14th and in a more disadvantageous position compared to title rivals Kremers and Gustavsson, was not very well.

  • Excellent first two days for Pedro Hiltbrand (Leclerc by Lennox Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), passed from the Tony Kart Racing Team to Leclerc by Lennox Racing. The Spaniard takes off the whim of winning a heat in front of Denner and climbs to 6th place in the standings.

  • Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart - Sodikart - TM Racing) finishes 7th, ahead of Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), 8th with a gain of 6 positions, and Jeremy Iglesias (CRG Racing Team - CRG - TM Racing), 9th with +7 positions. Senna van Walstijn (CPB Sport - Sodikart - TM Racing) is 10th.

  • Alessio Piccini (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing) and Paavo Tonteri (CRG Racing Team - CRG - TM Racing) are respectively 12th (+9 positions compared to qualifying) and 13th (+10 positions), both behind Stan Pex (KR Motorsport - KR - TM Racing), 11th (+7 positions).

  • Danilo Albanese (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), fourth in the championship after two rounds, loses nine positions compared to qualifying and is 22nd at the end of Saturday. Lorenzo Camplese (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) obtained an encouraging third place in the last heat but is 24th in the standings, thanks to a retirement. Two positions behind are Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex), 24th and disqualified in the last heat.

OK: outstanding performance by Rafael Camara

Tires: LeCont

  • Nobody can contain Rafael Camara (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) on Friday and Saturday. The Brazilian driver, yesterday in pole position, signs three wins (and two fastest laps) in three qualifying heats: a performance that is certainly interesting in view of tomorrow's races and decisive for the title (ranking in which he is the leader).

  • The retirement in the first heat for Arvid Lindblad (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) weighs almost like a boulder. The British licensed driver, in the other two races, gets two first places and two fastest laps but drops in the standings until 17th place.

  • Despite a recent absence from the first round of the WSK Euro Series due to COVID-19 and having returned to the wheel not yet in the best of form, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) obtained fourth place in the standings. The Italian driver, among the title contenders, finishes behind Luigi Coluccio (Kosmic Racing Department - Kosmic - Vortex), second and excellent interpreter of the Lonato track, and Ugo Ugochukwu (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), third.

  • Joseph Turney (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) makes his way in the standings, fifth after a comeback of 16 positions. On the other hand, Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Birel ART Racing - RK - TM Racing), sixth, and Artem Severium (Ward Racing - Tony Kart - Vortex), seventh, lost one position.

  • Nikola Tsolov (DPK Racing - KR - IAME) remains in the top ten, eighth ahead of a Matheus Morgatto (Birel ART Racing - RK - TM Racing) who gets ninth thanks to a recovery of 18 positions. Norton Andreasson (Ward Racing - Tony Kart - Vortex) is tenth.

  • Following, in the standings we find: Ivan Domingues (DPK Racing - KR - IAME), 11th; Christian Ho (Sauber Orlen Karting Team - KR - IAME), 12th; Andrey Zhivnov (Team Komarov - Tony Kart - TM Racing), 13th; Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex), 14th; Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing), 15th. Brando Badoer (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) drops from 8th to 25th place.

OKJ: four out of five wins for Rashid Al Dhaheri

Tires: Vega

  • Unstoppable Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin Motorsport - Parolin - TM Racing) in the five qualifying heats: four wins and a second place raise the UAE driver to first place. Recall that the Parolin Motorsport standard bearer was absent in Sarno due to the positivity to COVID-19.

  • Matheus Ferreira (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) confirms to be among the fastest in Lonato. The Brazilian driver gets two second places on Friday, followed by three wins and two fastest laps on Saturday that keep him in second place.

  • Also competitive Douwe Dedecker (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) in the qualifying heats: three wins, a second place, a fourth and two fastest laps put the Belgian driver in third place. Kean Nakamura Berta (Forza Racing - Exprit - TM Racing) gives up slightly after yesterday's pole position: two wins, a second place and two thirds are not enough for the Japanese to stay on top who, on the contrary, drops to fourth place.

  • Great skills as a climber for Akshay Bohra (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), who went from 19th to fifth place in five races thanks to two victories, and for Enzo Deligny (Parolin Motorsport - Parolin - TM Racing), from 28th to seventh. Bohra, second in the championship before this round, is in an excellent position to fight for the title against Alex Powell (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME), 16th despite recovering 25 positions.

  • Freddie Slater (Ricky Flynn Motorsport - Kosmic - Vortex) occupies the sixth place, in the sandwich formed by Bohra and Deligny. Harley Keeble (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) keeps the eighth place, while we find William Macintyre (Birel ART Racing - Birel ART - TM Racing) and Alexander Gubenko (Tony Kart Racing Team - Tony Kart - Vortex) respectively at the ninth and tenth place.

  • Kirill Kutskov (KR Motorsport - KR - IAME) and Maksimilian Popov (Ward Racing - Tony Kart - Vortex), the two Russians in third and fourth position in the championship after three rounds, are just outside the top 10: 11th Kutskov, 13 ° Popov. Antonio Apicella (Team Driver Racing Kart - KR - IAME) is rather unlucky after yesterday’s sixth place: two retirements send the Italian back to 50th place.
