The second and final round of the FIA Karting KZ2 European Championship saw Birelart finish fighting for a podium place.
KZ2 – Knopjes and Wolfe close to the podium
A competitive weekend at Sarno for the KZ2 drivers, fighting for the top positions from the very beginning. Sem Knopjes completed a weekend as one of the main contenders, constantly improving. After a top-five result in qualifying, the Dutch driver delivered solid and mistake-free heats, consistently finishing between the top three and top five. Sunday was even more positive, with second place in his Super Heat, allowing him to start the KZ2 Final from the third row and fight for the podium from the opening lap, eventually finishing fourth. A similar path for Noah Wolfe, who was also competitive from the start thanks to third place in qualifying and strong race pace throughout the heats. Among his best results, the British driver also claimed a heat win with the fastest lap, together with several top-three finishes. Third place in the Super Heat was followed by a fight for the leading positions in the Final, which he completed in sixth place. Both drivers finished inside the top ten of the overall KZ2 European Championship standings.
Bad luck and a retirement due to a technical issue in the Super Heat unfortunately affected Ider's weekend, who would most likely have been fighting for the top positions. Second fastest in his qualifying group, he then delivered excellent heats with one win, one second place and two third places among his best results, before finishing eleventh in the Final.
A comeback weekend at Sarno for Sala (CL Racing Team), fighting through the heats and finishing close to the top ten in the Final after gaining eleven positions. Good progress also from Zallocco, with fourth fastest time in qualifying and useful results in the heats, as well as Vejen, who also set a fastest lap. A weekend with good potential for Urwin, he fought hard in the heats but technical difficulties affected his performance. Broggio and Blin (MGT) also showed good progress and were among the front runners, but they were unlucky in the final. Ritonen made a strong comeback, while Knudsen, Marti, and Toso were also fighting for good positions.
KZ – A difficult weekend for Hiltbrand
It was not the easiest weekend for Pedro Hiltbrand, who was slowed by a few technical issues during qualifying and the heats that affected the Spanish driver's weekend. Even so, he showed good pace in the Super Heat and made up several positions. In the Final, Hiltbrand was also recovering in the midfield battle before being forced to retire.
The next event for the Birelart Racing Team will be in Kristianstad (Sweden), with the double weekend that will conclude the FIA Karting European season from 23 to 25 July for the Champions of the Future and from 31 July to 2 August for the European Championship.
