The fourth edition of the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy has left the mists of western France for the Spanish circuit of Navarra. Thanks to a new partnership with the MP Motorsport team, the winner Tymoteusz Kucharczyk will take part in the Spanish F4 Championship next season in the colours of the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy.
"Since the creation of the Young Talent Academy in 2018, we have been striving to create a bridge between karting and cars for young drivers from all over the world. We would like to thank our different partners who trust us and follow us in this great adventure - it's a team effort", shared Amanda Mille.
Still very attached to the concept of a bridge between karting and single-seater racing, the Richard Mille brand is pursuing its objective of detecting young talent through the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy, in partnership with the Birel ART group. This operation, which is fully supported, is open to Birel ART drivers selected by the distributors or from the Birel ART Racing Team and the Leclerc by Lennox Racing team. Previous winners include Enzo Valente (FRA) who finished in the top five of the 2019 French F4 Championship, Rafael Villagomez (MEX) who is competing for the FIA F3 title and Hugh Barter (AUS) who is currently fighting for the French F4 title.
12 drivers aged between 14 and 17 from 12 countries in America, Europe and Oceania met at the Navarra circuit from 11th to 13th October 2021. The physical and mental assessments carried out by Dr Ceccarelli's Formula Medicine team took up a large part of the day on Tuesday before finishing with training in the handling of the MP Motorsport F4 Tatuus Abarth.
After a guided tour of the Navarra circuit on Wednesday morning, the 12 participants took to the track for four 20-minute driving sessions. Based on the time sheets, it was not difficult to choose the six semi-finalists. The selection continued in the early afternoon. Oscar Targett (AUS), Martinus Stenshorne (NOR) and Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (POL) made the difference in terms of performance. All three were within a tenth of a second of each other, with a slight advantage for Stenshorne. The counters were reset to zero for the last confrontation on new tyres. Stenshorne and Kucharczyk took turns at the top of the leaderboard, fighting it out in a very close battle, while Targett remained slightly behind. Kucharczyk finally finished this magnificent duel with the fastest time.
It was then up to the jury to decide. Amanda Mille (Richard Mille), Debbie Gourdon (Richard Mille), Riccardo Ceccarelli (Formula Medicine) and Sander Dorsman (MP Motorsport) did not have an easy task. The three finalists each had enough talent to deserve to be rewarded. However, a choice had to be made and after a final interview, Kucharczyk was chosen as the winner of the 2021 RMYTA.
Tymoteusz Kucharczyk is a 15-year-old Polish driver. He started kart racing in his home country at a very early age before racing in Italy in the 60 Mini class. He switched to OK-Junior in 2019 and joined the Birel ART Racing Team in 2020 in the RK colours of Robert Kubica, who is watching over his career. He is having a very good 2021 season in OK and is already supported by Orlen, the main partner of Alfa Romeo Racing.
