The news came “out of the blue”, as teh saying goes: Flavio Camponeschi, defending KZ European Champion (followed by “team leader” Marco Ardigò) and KF1 World Champion in 2012, is no longer a Tony Kart driver.

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]lavio Camponeschi, defending KZ European Champion and KF1 World Champion in 2012, is no longer a Tony Kart driver.
The famous driver from Rome, Italy (born in 1992) had been racing with the official Prevalle factory for years. Not only, Camponeschi actually worked for Tony Kart, in the employee-sense of the word, putting in time whenever he wasn’t on track.
Everyone in the paddock was sure he’d become Ardigò’s rightful heir, especially after this year’s conquest of the European KZ crown, the first important title in that category that is becoming a must for the “high officials” of all major factory teams.
Instead, we are facing a totally unexpected divorce!
It seems it was Camponeschi himself who “called the thing off”, apparently for personal reasons… perhaps the desire to return to Rome.
True or not, it’s hard to believe that such a high level driver would leave “his” team after reaching the highest achievement of his career, a team that has always stood by him and supported him without limitations, also in tough moments when nobody else would have chosen to do so.
Beyond disbelief, we can’t help but wonder: what will Camponeschi do? Is he headed away from karting, or is he already checking out opportunities with other teams for 2016?
And also: who will take his place on the Tony Kart Racing Team? Someone from the “green breeding grounds” (Nicklas Nielsen is a likely candidate in light of his excellent performance in the KZ World Championship) or a new name on the OTK scene?
