ANALYSIS OF THE MINI BLUE KITE, THE CHASSIS OF THE MS KART FOR THE 60 MINI CLASS

TKART Staff
06 August 2018
The Blue Kite kart is the latest model by the Czech manufacturer MS Kart for the Minime/Cadet, a French class similar to the 60 Mini. The approval, as for all the vehicles of this class, is not that of the CIK-FIA but of the national federations. In this case the French FFSA

The shapes of the body of the Mini Blue Kite are traditional. The only exception is the transverse tube under the seat, positioned almost orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the chassis. The 25Cr-Mo4 chrome-molybdenum steel tubes have the "classic" diameter for the class: 28 mm, with a thickness of 2 mm. The axle is 30 mm in diameter, made of harmonic steel, with a length of 960 mm and a minimum thickness of 4.9 mm. Continuing with the measures, the last change is the wheelbase (950 mm), for the rear wheel track (575 mm) and the front (630 mm).

The axle can be adjusted to three different heights because of the 3 holes positioned vertically in the bearing housings. The front height is also adjustable, because of the thicknesses that can be positioned above or below the spindles. As for the camber and caster angles, on the other hand, you can modify the geometries thanks to the Sniper system, which allows easy adjustment of the two corners in a completely independent way.

To date, the chassis for the classes of younger drivers, such as the 60 Mini, must not exceed a CIK-FIA approval, but the national one is sufficient.

The Mini Blue Kite chassis of the Czech MS Kart passed approval from the FFSA (Fédération Française du Sport Automobile), responding to the new parameters set for 2018 for the Minima/Cadet classes. In fact, the French Federation wanted to standardise its regulations to those already widely used in other countries and classes (60 Mini, Mini ROK, Rotax Minimax, Mini Belgium, etc.), also in view of the future Mini CIK-FIA approval announced for 2020.

The main characteristic of the "new" Minime/Cadet is the 950 mm wheelbase (up to 2017 the reference measurements of the wheelbase were 900 mm for the Minime - drivers from 7 to 11 years of age - and 1040 mm for the Cadet - from 10 to 14 years).

The braking system is hydraulic, with a pincer obviously only at the rear. The disc is self-ventilated, perforated and has a thickness, as new, of 10 mm. The external diameter is 160 mm, while the brake pads, available in two different hardness, work on a surface with an external diameter of 160 mm and an internal diameter of 110 mm. The brake caliper has a single piston (one on each side) and made from solid piece in two parts.

The brake pump is also very refined and machined from a solid piece. An original part (even if it has already been available in other models) the oil pan which transparently shows the level of the liquid, with incisions marking the minimum and maximum values.

The side pods, nose and bumper are those of the KG MK 14 model. The leather steering wheel is also that of the Italian KG, as an MS Kart brand. The wheels are those of Douglas Wheel made in aluminium.
