4 TOOLS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF TYRES ON TRACKS

Max Bernardi

In motorsport, tyres are a fundamental component whose correct management allows winning performance to be achieved. Karts are no exception. This is precisely why there are tools, more or less known, with which to evaluate every parameter related to tyres, useful both to professional and amateur kart drivers.

DIGITAL PYROMETER

The temperature of the rubber is one of the parameters to be taken into consideration to understand whether you are making the most of the tyres. To measure this value it is better not to use on a laser gun because it often does not provide reliable data. The internal heat of the rubber, when it escapes, increases the surface temperature of the tyre, distorting the data. In fact, with a laser gun, variances of up to 10-15 degrees can be recorded between the first and last tyre. The ideal tool is the pyrometer, a device with a needle to be inserted into the tread at a depth of about three millimetres. In fact, the internal temperature of the tread band is constant if measured over a period of 40 seconds, which is the time required to measure four tyres.
