Ailments after a day on the track is something all kart drivers know about. They can come from your muscles; in this case you can find expert advice in the TKART article "What hurts after driving a kart? pain (and treatments) for kart drivers”, or from the bruises received driving a kart. Let's find out about the essential accessories to improve seat and steering wheel comfort as well as to protect legs and arms. But not only that: we also take a look at the driver's seat of the 4-time World Champion Davide Forè, to learn his trick to drive fast ... without suffering!
The seat is one of the most important accessories to work on to improve driving comfort. The most annoying areas are on the sides where the heads of the fixing bolts to the chassis are located. The use of ergonomic pads to be fastened on the sides helps absorb shocks, especially when the kart "jumps" on curbs, and stops direct rubbing against the bolts. You can buy rubber, padded fabric or inflatable pads depending on your needs, as shown in the showcase on the Righetti Ridolfi website, where the products can be purchased from resellers.
Small bruises to the limbs are considered normal after a day racing a kart. The right leg usually impacts against the fuel tank during right-hand bends, the seat being slightly off-centre to the left to optimise the vehicle’s centre of gravity. Furthermore, in the KZ classes, the elbow often hits the engine cylinder when changing gear. For total protection of your joints, you just have to wear knee and elbow pads.
