KART HUBS: 5 USEFUL ACCESSORIES FOR MAINTENANCE AND QUICK WHEEL ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENTS

When it comes to racing kart hubs, the focus is often on choosing the best combination of length and material to achieve optimal performance on the track (for more information, read "Expert Advice | How to choose the right hubs for the kart"). However, beyond component selection, it's also crucial to consider practical handling during use on the track. The reason is simple: hubs are subjected to continuous lateral loads, torsion, and vibrations. Various critical issues can therefore arise during use. For example, a hub, even if tightly tightened, may slip from the position defined during setup adjustment. Or disassembly may be difficult due to seizure or friction. To effectively manage these types of issues, we offer five "smart" solutions, with an investment ranging from €1 to €45 (excluding VAT).

Stop shims for rear hubs

In high-grip conditions or after a contact on the track, the hub may move from its initial position, defined during setup adjustment. Even a few millimeters of movement are enough to change the track width and, therefore, alter the kart's balance compared to the set-up (for more information, read "Track Test Tech | The variations of the kart rear track width" and "Track Test Tech | Adjust the front track width. Track test"). To avoid this phenomenon, it is possible to create an axial constraint, preventing the hub from moving backward under load. Inserting shims inside the hub, so that the axle hits them when it is inserted into the hub, effectively eliminates the possibility of inward slippage. The spacers we offer are designed for 50 mm diameter axles and are made of anodized aluminum, but there are also 40 mm diameter versions, also suitable for the front hubs of shifters karts. The kit includes 12 pieces divided into 6 different thicknesses, each identified by a specific color: 2 mm (silver), 3 mm (black), 5 mm (gold), 10 mm (blue), 15 mm (red), and 20 mm (fuchsia). The different sizes can be used individually or combined, allowing you to precisely define the hub position and desired track. To use them, as mentioned, simply insert the desired combination of thicknesses into the hub, place it against the axle, and tighten the locking screws.

Editor's note
To solve the same problem of retracting the hubs along the axle, there is also an alternative accessory: keys with a locking system. We have already explored this solution in the article Must Have | 4 clever solutions for the management of mini karts
