THE TOOLS FOR BLEEDING BRAKES

Gianluca Covini
01 June 2022
Has the brake pedal become spongy and elastic? Did the stroke lengthen and the braking lose its effectiveness? Maybe it's time to bleed the brake fluid. This activity allows you to remove the air bubbles inside the circuit, restoring optimal performance and reducing the stroke of the brake pedal. To always get the most out of your system, bleeding should be done before every day on the track. The complete replacement of the brake fluid must take place within predetermined time intervals based on the fluid. To carry out the bleeding, in addition to obtaining the correct liquid, you must make sure you have the indispensable tools to carry out this activity, which sooner or later every kart driver must carry out.

BRAKE FLUID

Before you begin, you need to identify and procure the correct type of brake fluid. There are various types, distinguished by the abbreviation DOT (DOT4, DOT5, DOT5.1), silicone-based or glycol-based (for more information read the article "Technique | Brake fluid"). To quickly find out which liquid to buy, you need to check the technical data sheet of the braking system of your kart, where the manufacturer normally indicates the correct type of oil.
