The question concerning possible modifications to the rear axle to have more traction is rather complex. However, on a general level, we can say that if you want more traction and grip when braking, increasing the length of the hubs will do it. So will mounting a harder axle. Vice versa, shorter hubs increase the free part of the axle: this allows the rear end of the kart to slide more, reducing the grip of the rear tyres. Everything depends, however, on the type of rubber used. In particular, it is not just the tread compound that makes the difference, but the hardness of the carcass. The advice is to start off in standard trim conditions for the first rounds, then, based on how it feels, try to change the set up by acting on the hubs and axle to improve the situation, but always considering the overall setup of the kart.
