It is exactly the opposite. Steering wheels with a larger diameter (those from 340 to 350 mm) are those that, by guaranteeing more leverage, allow drivers to exert less effort when steering. For this very reason, steering wheels with a larger diameter may be more suitable for the MINI and Junior categories, where participants are still in the growth phase and generally have less developed muscle strength. The same argument, however, can be reiterated with regard to the Shifter categories, to slightly reduce the effort of kart drivers (Editor’s note: who often find themselves using only one arm, because the other is engaged with the shift lever), one can consider adopting a steering wheel with a larger diameter. Steering wheels having standard diameters (from 320 to 330 mm), on the other hand, provide less leverage than the previous ones and therefore, with the same steering angle, require a greater force exerted by the driver. Their use, however, is preferred because for many the use of larger steering wheels is uncomfortable and more difficult to use (so much so that larger steering wheels represent a smaller share of production and requests). The choice of steering wheel is however a completely subjective evaluation, not just dictated by the effort that the driver must make to maneuver it.
