08 December 2023

For the fourth consecutive year, LeCont was one of the official WSK Promotion suppliers. The Italian brand played an active part in the success of the 2023 season with a presence in the Italian promoter's five major series, including the WSK Final Cup. This high-level competition ended on November 26 at Franciacorta in excellent conditions, with a total of 342 drivers taking part. As a week earlier in Lonato, the KZ2 and OK categories equipped with LeCont 'Prime' tyres provided their share of excitement, suspense and spectacle, all with extremely consistent performances.

Records were broken again at Franciacorta with LeCont tyres! In the warm-up on Sunday morning, Dmitry Matveev clocked an OK time of 46"471, breaking the 100 km/h barrier on average on this 1,300-metre track. In the race, Oleksandr Bondarev clocked 46"507, almost 8 tenths better than the fastest time in the World Championship in October. In KZ2, Maxim Orlov clocked 45"507 in one heat, before David Trefilov improved on that in the warm-up with a time of 45"274. At the WSK Super Master Series in February, the fastest lap of the meeting was just 45"757.

OK: Impressive consistency

Each new event in the WSK Promotion is an opportunity for drivers and teams to praise LeCont tyres for their efficiency throughout the competition. In addition to the optimum grip offered by the Italian tyres despite the cool temperatures that often prevailed in the Brescia region, the lap times remained very consistent from Timed Qualifying to the Final: 46"549 in the Qualifying session, 46"779, 46"860, 46"820, 46"989, 46"731, 46"923 and 46"507 in the heats, 46"801 and 46"593 in the Prefinals, then 46"593 in the Final. That's less than five tenths between the best and the worst!

Winner in Lonato, Dmitry Matveev led the Final for a long time. Sebastiano Pavan eventually found a way through to take a brilliant victory, but was unable to prevent Matveev from taking the title in this WSK Final Cup 2023. Moving up to 3rd place, Thibaut Ramaekers scored enough points to complete the series podium, ahead of Anatoly Khavalkin and Gustaw Wisniewski.

KZ2 wraps up WSK Final Cup 2023 in style

Tyre supplier for the KZ, KZ2 and KZ2 Masters categories in FIA Karting this season, LeCont has long and valuable experience of the very demanding 125cc gearbox categories. The Italian factory's experience and expertise were confirmed at Franciacorta, allowing a number of drivers and teams to shine.

After getting the better of Tom Leuillet, who took pole position, David Trefilov held off Maxim Orlov right to the end to win both the race and the title ahead of his great rival in the Final. Relegated to 9th after contact, Leuillet managed to get back on the third step of the podium. However, it was Cristian Bertuca who completed the top three overall. Gabriel Gomez put in a superb performance despite his limited experience of KZ2.

LeCont invites Mini, X30 Junior, X30 Senior, Rotax DD2 and KZ drivers to the third edition of the LeCont Trophy organised on December 9 and 10 on the Lucas Guerrero circuit in Valencia (Spain).
