The OK1 Karts chassis: the 2021 technical innovations
TKART Staff
19 October 2021

IPKarting mainly focused on two areas to upgrade the OK1 Karts chassis for the 2021 season: safety and performance.

Thanks to the work carried out both at the factory and at the track, the IPKarting technicians designed and realised a series of innovations regarding the various components of the OK1 karts in order to improve the performance of the chassis, facilitate its use and increase its safety in all categories, from MINI to KZ.

NEW ADJUSTABLE LOWER SEAT SUPPORT
The new lower seat support was developed with the goal of simplifying the seat’s assembly and adjustment on the chassis as well as of refining the chassis’ own reliability. The 2021 OK1 karts are characterised by a double-hole bushing welded to the frame, on which an L-shaped plate is fastened. One of the two holes on the plate is slotted, and this enables it to rotate to the right or to the left, therefore adapting to the seat’s position. In comparison to the previous fastening system, the new one discards the risk of breakage, as the seat support doesn’t require repeated bending anymore.

NEW EXTRA SHORT MINI HUB WITH A 30 MM INTERNAL DIAMETER AND 25 MM WIDTH
The 2021 range of accessories for the Monster EVO 3, OK1’s MINI kart, saw the addition of a new aluminium hub. The rear hub has a width of 25 mm, which is the shortest size available, and, coherently with the company’s philosophy, is machined from a solid piece of metal. This solution is aimed at increasing the smoothness of the chassis in order to make the setup more suitable to higher grip conditions.

NEW BUSHING FOR THE 0.5° CCS SYSTEM
The IPKarting technicians also designed a new bushing to have a wider range of options for adjusting the CCS system (Camber Caster Regulation System). In fact, thanks to the new bushing, the Camber and Caster can be fine-tuned with 0.5-degree variations. By joining the 1-degree and 2-degree bushings, this innovation guarantees the greatest possibility of adapting the go-kart’s setup to all track conditions.

NEW BRAKE DISCS
Safety is paramount when working on the brake system produced by IPK and mounted on OK1 Karts chassis. Seeking to improve the reliability of its brake discs and following detailed studies, the Research and Development department defined a new material, which provides a tensile strength as well as a yield point that are doubled compared to the previous version, while maintaining the same braking performance. Moreover, the thickness of the 149 mm, 187 mm and 195 mm discs increased by 0.5 mm, consequently extending the life cycle of the component. An additional innovation regards the pad cleaning groove, which can be now used as an indicator of the disc’s wear in order to prevent breakage. In fact, if the 0.5 mm deep grooves on the surface of the disc aren’t visible along their entire length, the disc must be replaced. Finally, the new discs are perfectly compatible with the braking systems of the IPKarting line.

Brake disc RBS.V2 Ø187mm
New disc thickness: 17 mm.

Brake disc RBS.V2 Ø195mm
