Historically, 100 karts could only have a rear brake. The advent of the KF saw regulations change and the introduction of front brakes in direct drive classes. It was an almost epoch-making decision that, however, only lasted until 2016 when, with the arrival of the new OK and OK-Junior engines, a return to the past was decided, prohibiting their use once again.
Learning how to assemble and disassemble the front brakes on the chassis is still useful to know for all kart racers, also because the work is less tricky than it sounds when buying a pre-assembled kit. Our “Doc” has worked on a BRM DK8 kart, but the procedure is basically the same on any chassis.
As always, it is more convenient to position the kart on a trolley.
In this case, you also need to remove the front wheels.
After which... you start by disassembling the tie-rods using a 5 mm Allen key and a 13 mm fixed wrench.
Then release the stub axles from the “C”s using two 13 mm wrenches (a ratchet wrench speeds things up).
If the bolt proves hard to remove, use a rubber mallet. Do not overdo things with the mallet...
