In the universe of the most widely used 2T 125 cc engines in karting, the Shifter engines, which are FIA Karting homologated for the KZ and KZ2 categories, are among the best performing of all. Capable of delivering up to 48 hp and reaching top speeds ranging from 140 km/h to 160 km/h, depending on the track, these engines are an ideal choice for those seeking maximum performance in karting. In the face of superior performance compared to Direct Drive models, shifter engines still offer a good degree of reliability. To avoid malfunctions or sudden breakdowns, however, it is essential to carefully check all key engine elements, such as transmission, carburetor and gearbox, before even getting into the kart. These are tricks that might seem trivial, but are actually far from obvious and should not be overlooked. To help karters who have just purchased their first Shifter engine, we asked Galiffa Kart, one of the most successful tuners on the international scene -his, among others, the title in the 2022 FIA Karting World Championship KZ in Le Mans with CRG- to compile a checklist of the key checks to be made before getting on the track.
