Generally speaking, one should never get tired of repeating it, a driver’s training should never be understood only from a physical point of view, as the psychological component is equally as important, highly influencing the heart rate and, consequently, the endurance needed with determination and strength in a competition. Therefore, to be successful, an athlete will have to train both his muscles and his mind. As Latins used to say, “mens sana in corpore sano” [“a healthy mind in a healthy body”, Editor’s note]. The ideal preparation can be divided in three phases, called mesocycles, each with a duration of between 2 to 5 weeks. In the first mesocycle attention is given to the general physical condition; in the second one the workloads are increased based on the tests the athlete undergoes; the third one optimizes the efforts made and work is done regarding heart rate. This is the ideal path needed to keep yourself prepared and ready to race.
Very often the time available is limited and it is necessary to shorten the preparation and calibrate it in view of the first engagement on the track. Ten – fifteen days may be enough to build a good preparation base and get back to the wheel of the kart not completely unprepared.
