4 DIY SOLUTIONS AT NO COST TO SAVE YOUR KARTING DAY WHEN IT RAINS
What to do if a day in the kart, which started out in the sun, suddenly turns rainy… And you have nothing with you to face a session on a wet track? Going home may seem like the only option. But that's not the case. With a little ingenuity, some duct tape and a few objects recovered from the toolbox or the pile of "things to throw away", you can implement 4 do-it-yourself solutions to continue driving even in the rain, even if you don't have specific accessories (which ones are there? We suggest some in the "Must Have | Raining all of a sudden? Here are 5 accessories to adapt your kart to wet conditions just in seconds"). From protecting the airbox with recycled objects to emergency covers for electrical components, these are quick and accessible interventions for everyone, designed to protect the kart from sudden rain and not waste a day on the track.
Editor's note
It must be said that certain wet track conditions can pose real risks to the integrity of the engine. Driving in the wet is not in itself so harmful, especially if the engine is well protected, if you take some precautions (for example, after washing and final drying, turn on and warm up the engine in the pits on the trolley before dismantling it to go home) and if you evaluate the real state of the engine before going out on the track. It is equally true, however, that if the engine already has hours of operation behind it, or if you work to the limit with the airbox uncovered that is hit by water spray, the risk of damaging the engine is certainly there, especially for Shifter engines, which are very high-performance. So, in certain conditions, driving in the wet can lead to having to spend a few unexpected euros, but it is not a fixed rule that "rain = engine to be redone".
