5 BEARINGS FOR THE AXLE OF SENIOR AND JUNIOR KARTS, BOTH DIRECT DRIVE AND SHIFTER

Axle bearings (but for karts, bearings are used at the front and in the engine) serve to reduce friction and wear between two rotating and connected components. They are composed of 4 main elements: two rings (one inner and one external), with rolling elements inside them (generally rollers or balls) and a cage that contains them and keeps them in place (to find out more, read, "Tech Talk | Axle bearings"). We selected 5 bearings, with costs from 14 to over 100 Euros, dedicated to the Senior/Junior world (Shifter and Direct Drive) and compatible with most chassis brands, thanks to rather standardised sizes.

BEARING WITH POLYAMIDE CAGE

The cheapest bearing we propose is a model made of steel, with an outer diameter of 80 mm and an internal diameter of 50 mm, which has a 3-set screw fastening system on the axle. This bearing is distinguished by the polyamide cage. The term "cage" indicates the element inside the bearing which keeps the rolling elements spaced apart, isolating them during movement (so as to minimise friction and, therefore, the generation of heat). Generally, cages can be made of steel or polyamide. The latter material, lighter and more elastic than steel, allows higher speeds, reducing the dissipation of energy produced by a kart engine.
