KART PROTECTION: 5 ACCESSORIES TO CONSIDER FOR THE CORRECT TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF THE CHASSIS AND ITS COMPONENTS

Every time you head to the track to spend a day karting, you have to load the chassis and its components onto your vehicle, unload them when you arrive, move them around the paddock, and, at the end of the day, take them home to store in your garage. Without the right accessories or precautions, there is an increased risk of damage during all these stages: a bump while lifting the kart, a sudden movement during transport, accidental contact with other objects, or disorderly storage at home can compromise the chassis, fairings, engine, etc. To offer effective protection at every stage—from transport to storage in the garage—we have selected five practical and easy-to-use accessories. From lifting the chassis to proper storage in your home garage, these solutions help keep your kart safe and in optimal condition, reducing maintenance costs and unexpected repairs.

Kart lifting extension kit

Lifting the kart from the front to load it onto a tilting trolley (what is it and how does it differ from other trolleys commonly used in karting? For more information, read “Must Have | 4 kart trolleys… at all prices!”), or to place it on a vertical stand, means that the entire weight of the vehicle is concentrated on the rear guard. Over time, this can increase the risk of bending the rear guard mounting brackets or scratching or deforming the guard itself. To reduce these risks, there are accessories designed to shift the load point when lifting the kart, preventing the weight from bearing directly on the rear guard. These include the kart lifting extension kit developed by Stone Kart Company, a Slovenian company specializing in the production of karting accessories. The kit consists of four elements:

  • [A] two bushings, which serve as the installation seat for the extensions.
  • [B] the two extensions themselves. Made of steel, they are 130 mm long and have an external diameter of 20 mm. At one end, they feature a snap-in mechanism that allows them to be inserted into the bushings and locked into place quickly and securely. At the opposite end, there is a rubber coating designed to improve grip on the support surfaces and reduce the risk of slipping when lifting the kart.

To use this kit, the bushings supplied must replace the standard ones normally supplied with the rear protection installation kits. Each bushing must be fixed in the hole facing the rear of the kart on the bracket that connects the rear protection to the frame. The end of the bushing that fits into the bracket is made with two sections of different diameters, one [C] 20 mm and one [D] 24 mm: according to the manufacturer, this feature makes them compatible with most brackets used for the installation of FIA Karting approved rear guards. The bushings also have a central hole for the fixing screw, sized for M10 and therefore usable with both M10 and M8 screws. Once the bushings are installed, whenever the kart needs to be lifted, the extensions can be inserted in a few moments, easily and without the use of tools.
