Motorsport, including karting, is undeniably a passion that comes with significant costs—it’s virtually impossible to practise this sport at “zero cost.” However, the experience and rewards make it well worth the investment. Owning and maintaining a complete kart, along with participating in races, requires considerable financial outlay. This led us to ask ourselves: how can we manage and potentially reduce these unavoidable expenses? One of the solutions we came up with inspired this article: repurposing common household tools and accessories to give them a "second life" in the world of karting. So, which everyday items could double up as useful tools for your kart? We’ve identified six practical suggestions for you to consider! We’d also love to hear your ideas. What creative solutions do you use to save costs while karting? Share your tips and advice with the TKART Magazine community by leaving a comment at the end of this article!

Black bin bags

On the track, black bin bags serve a dual purpose. Firstly, they’re essential for keeping the paddock and tents tidy throughout the day by collecting rubbish and preventing litter. Secondly, they play a key role in tyre preservation. At the end of the day, once the kart is dismantled and the tyres are removed from the chassis, if you don’t have a specialised tyre bag, a great alternative is to use black bin bags. Simply place the tyres inside, seal the bag with adhesive tape, and store them securely.
This method offers excellent long-term protection from environmental factors. A sealed bag shields tyres from sunlight, temperature fluctuations, and humidity, helping to maintain their performance by minimising exposure to potentially damaging atmospheric conditions.
