Brake discs are an essential part of the kart braking system because they transform the friction generated by the pads against the faces of the disc itself into braking torque. They can be made in different shapes and different materials, each of which carries its own advantages and disadvantages (for more, read "Technique | Kart braking system: the different technical and construction philosophies compared"). However, there are many urban legends circulating in the paddocks.
