TRUTH (AND LIES!) ABOUT KART BRAKE PADS - PART 1 OF 2

Gianluca Covini

Brake pads are obviously crucial for good braking performance. At the same time, they are components which get worn out, which must be constantly monitored. In fact, they are subjected to wear and tear and continuous thermal cycles of heating and cooling. After examining them, the question often arises as to whether they should be replaced or whether they can still be used (and for how long!). Or, if they need to be broken in, or again, if the pads stored in a garage for a long time can still be used. To remove any of your doubts (and ours!) we turned to Luis Carlos Maurel, global Motorsport director of PFC Brakes, official IndyCar supplier, and in the past head of the Karting and Moto GP racing department of Galfer, a Spanish company specialised in the construction of braking systems. Luis Carlos Maurel gave 12 answers to as many questions, here are the first 6!
