”Tires’ footprint mesh is made with a "mix" of polymers, oils, carbon dust and other elements that has been vulcanized (a chemical treatment that makes it soft, ed.). If we keep in mind that tires are subject to a constant (albeit minimal) process of vulcanization, as time goes on they'll lose their most important mechanical property, which is the capacity to "adapt" to the microscopic holes that characterize the surface of a road or track. In addition, tire carcasses contain a nylon layer that tends to absorb humidity as time goes on, with obvious effects on pertormance. On average, alter 7 months or so, hard-mesh tires will lose about 4 or 5 tenths per lap, while soft tires will lose less speed (2 tenths) and will yield o more steady behavior.”
