Tires and axles: 4 replacement parts under €15 that can save your track day

There are some spare parts that almost no one considers (or remembers) to bring with them before heading to the track for a day of healthy karting. Yet, these are precisely the ones that, if missing when needed, risk ruining an entire trip. We're talking about the small components needed to keep tires and axles functioning properly: they cost a few euros, they fit in the palm of your hand, yet most people ignore the fact that they're subject to wear, sudden breakage, or loss at (often) the most inopportune moment. An axle grub screw that accidentally loosens, a key that shears, a beadlock screw that needs replacing, or a leaking tire valve: all situations that, without the right spare part, force you to stay in the pits watching others go by. So, here's a mini list of four essential spare parts, all of which share a negligible cost, that we strongly recommend always having on hand. Because spending a few euros on prevention is always better than ending a day at the track prematurely!

Axle Locking Grub Screws

Axle grub screws are small threaded elements screwed into special flanges in the bearing holes, their job being to lock the axle in place. When subjected to constant stress, they risk stripping or becoming damaged in their hexagonal housing, eventually losing their grip. At that point, the axle, which should remain attached to the bearings, begins to move, with negative consequences for the kart's setup and safety. Keeping a few spares in your spare parts kit costs just a few cents, but it avoids these unpleasant consequences. An important practical aspect to consider is their size, which should be chosen based on the axle the kart is equipped with: grub screws with an M6 thread are used for 25-30 mm diameter axles, while M8s are used for 40-50 mm diameter axles.
